Play in a Week started about February time for me, when we started designing the poster. Me and Rachel were thinking about what the theme for the Play in a Week was going to be. So we were thinking about stuff, and then watching a programme about Venice and carnival… I thought Carnival would be a brilliant idea for a play, with the beautiful, brilliant masks and all that. And then my volunteer, Laura, was helping me plan for the first session – warm up games, write down some rules, the definition of carnival and what the group thought it was. Me and Laura met every Saturday and Sunday in between to talk about Play in a Week. And then the day came. We did some great warm up games, fun stuff. We had only four people for the taster day. And then we had great fun with improvisation, which was brilliant. We did some work with Anna and Luke who played thieves. I used to my cast, including the lovely twins with the zombie dance. And then the week of the performance we added the zombie dance in. There was lots of tweaking, jabbing and poking of the script to see what worked.
