The Freewheelers went to the Nomad Theatre East Horsley today for a planning day for the annual PIAW (Play in a Week)…
The others from the Freewheelers were Anna, Sam and Sonas plus myself. The title of the play is Going For Gold and was written by Anita Sullivan who ran the day with Brandon. It is set in the fictional country of Freeland during a Paralympics event the other made up countries are Espangola, Sunistan and Molvakia. The plot is two thieves dressed up as Hot Dog sellers trying to steal the Spirit of Motion Cup whilst the games are going on. the sports are Boccia which is like French Boules were you have to bowl coloured balls nearest to the target ball called the Jack, Rowing, Equestrian this is with Horses trying jump fences to music, and Goal ball in this sport which is for people with sight problems there is a ball with a bell in it and when think it is near you you try and get it into the goal by throwing in that direction. People who have perfect sight can also play by wearing blindfolds.
In the morning we had a run through of some of the play I was Fred Fescue-Frisk mayor of Freeland. We then had lunch. After lunch we continued the play in this I was the coach of Espangola the other Freewheelers played various other parts. we also watched a film about the sports in the played a game of Boccia using balls on the end of big sticks the actual play in a week is the week starting Monday July 19th with the show on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. The were other people from different places also there. .
