21 May Steep Rain and other work
Today in drama Wendy, Sam and Anthony O’Sullivan were not there, as well as all the volunteers.
We started in the morning with a warm up. Then Steep Rain, the new scene we looked at last week, where the cast cross the stage in different directions without going into each other. Followed by the others parts of the same show. The new section will be fitted in, or be a separate part, this has not been decided yet. We then had lunch. During this, Sarah Thomas from the Nomads Theatre came, asking who wanted to be involved in this year’s Play in a Week (or PIAW for short) – several members including myself said we would. Sarah then told us the planning meeting is on June 29th at the Grange in Bookham, and the week itself will be July 23rd – 27th with performances on the weekend July 28th and 29th. The theme is ‘Openings’, as it is the same week the Olympics begin in London.
In the afternoon we continued with Steep Rain, during which some visitors came: Charles Yarwood and Helen, both local councilors, and Nick Haig, a film producer. We performed Steep Rain in front of them. I think they were impressed. We then watched the Steep Rain film done at Spectrum Centre in Guildford. Finally whilst Brandon talked to visitors on how they could help us with the Steep Rain project, Susan was with us and we went through my play Lord Upright and Grovling, scenes 5-7, in pairs or threes. I was not involved but I did not mind. In conclusion I enjoyed it today and I hope the others did as well.
