30 Jun Getting ready for Rachel’s Play in a Week
Today was was the Workshop for Rachel Barnett’s play for this year’s PIAW. It is called Openings.
We started with a getting to know each other game taken by Andrea, Brandon and musical director Jay. Then Rachel explained the story of the play. It will be set on the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in Britain this summer. It will also feature some of the little things in life, and some of the characters being stuck in a lift on the way to watch the ceremony. Jay taught us the songs including Opening Ceremony and Hip Hop Shop. We sang one of these in a group, against another one performing the Beatles’ Hey Jude. These were taken by Brandon and Jay, then we had lunch break.
In the afternoon we had a vocal warm up, then read through the play as far as scene five. Followed by the scene in which some of people get stuck in a lift on the way to the Opening Ceremony.
I really enjoyed it today and I hope the rest did as well. The actual Play in a Week is Monday July 22nd to Friday 26th, with performances on Sat July 27th in the evening and Sunday 28th in the afternoon.
