The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

Freewheelers Theatre and Media is delighted to have been presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK.

Created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation, this is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise the outstanding work that they undertake in their communities.

On Tuesday 31st October 2017, the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux, presented Freewheelers Theatre with the award at the company’s primary facilities in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Freewheelers Theatre and Media Company is one of 187 charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups to receive the award this year. The company works with disabled and non-disabled artists and works in theatre, film, music, and dance. Their performances not only entertain audiences, but also challenge perceptions.

Based in Leatherhead and Cobham, Surrey, Freewheelers has been running for over 25 years and is assisted by nearly 100 dedicated volunteers who all freely give their skills, energy and encouragement to help each and every member achieve their individual goals.
