Choreographer Andrea reports on progress so far...

I have worked with our dancers Anna Vere, Rachel Mold, Anthony O’Sullivan and Sonas Musana and devised some races which will give the children a small but important insight in what it may be like to be disabled.

Each of the above will lead one of the races.

Other ‘Trust’ games have been devised some of which involve the children wearing blindfolds and leading each other through courses etc using only their ears to hear instructions or by commands given only using touch.

The choreographic side of the workshop based on the ‘Trust’ dance has also been devised.

St. Peters in Ashtead is the guinea pig school for the workshops and a date has been fixed in July.

The workshop will initially be for year 6 children, and in one of the schools which is smaller than the others the year 5 and 6 children.

By the end of the autumn term at least 120 children will have attended the workshop from 4 different schools.  The schools are all in different areas of Surrey – the plan is that each school will then help promote the workshop to their neighbouring schools thus spreading the word over a wider area.

The 2 hour workshop will finish with a ‘sharing’, including a performance of our beautiful duet “Trust”, which it is hoped the children’s peers and parents will be able to attend. Thus the impact of the workshop will be felt by far more than just those who attend it
