WHO ARE FREEWHEELERS
We are a company working alongside professional and experienced (disabled and non-disabled) directors, producers, composers and writers, to produce engaging and highly entertaining theatre, dance, visual art and film.
We work as a team to fulfil the artistic ambitions of our members and to ensure that all voices are heard. We work to change perceptions of disability.
Founded in 1989 Freewheelers has continued to grow with our members attending workshops four days a week which include Dance, Drama, Media, Music, Visual Arts and Youth Theatre.
Our workshops are run by professional artists who are supported by a team of extremely dedicated volunteers.
What is the volunteer role and commitment?
Our weekly workshops in Drama, Dance, Media, Music and Art provide opportunities for disabled people to learn, work creatively and perform in ambitious and thought-provoking productions that move, inspire and engage audiences.
The role of volunteers at Freewheelers is crucial, they work alongside skilled practitioners in a fun and supportive environment.
Freewheelers is delighted to have been presented The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK.
Created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation, this is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise the outstanding work that they undertake in their communities.
In 2017 the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux, presented Freewheelers with our award; we were one of 187 charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups to receive the award during that year.
